Carcinoma

A cold

Weight loss I was happy about

Chest pain

Hard to breath

Doctor said bronchitis

Then pleurisy

Wait

What’s this weird bump

Doctor said swelling

Wait

It’s bigger now

Doctor said time for a CT scan

Wait

Doctor said a biopsy is needed

Wait

Doctor said CANCER

Meet oncologist

Need chemotherapy

You’re young

You’ll be fine

PET scan done

Stage four

Shock; fear

Start chemo

Big red syringe aka Red Devil

Nurse pushes

Tears flow

Fear and anxiety overtake me

More tears for the hair lost

Chills

Body aches

Vomiting

Suck it up

Be strong

Don’t let the family down

Fight

Put on a smile

So they don’t see your pain

Chemo done

Time to move on

Radiation

Seventeen in all

Ring the bell

To end this hell

Nine years have passed

All a little better than the last
