How I Overcame My Fears During Thyroid Cancer By Using My Faith

Two years ago I went through total thyroidectomy surgery on June 3rd, 2020. Since I was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer on June 5th, 2020, it felt like my whole world has turned upside down. It’s like I was in a downward spiral with all the emotions of feeling lost, lonely, depressed, and angry when I found out that I was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer. I went through thyroid cancer treatment with radioactive iodine treatment in August 2020, and now it has been two years since then. I have been cancer free from thyroid cancer and I am now in full remission with God’s help because He has helped me overcome my fears over thyroid cancer. God has helped me overcome my fears over thyroid cancer by staying in my faith and putting my trust in God. God allowed me to share my faith and show my scars to others who are going through a thyroid cancer journey.

I can appreciate how I have overcome thyroid cancer and have learned to be confident about my scars because every scar tells a story about my journey. After facing thyroid cancer two and a half years ago, it has taught me to be grateful and to appreciate how far I have come and how blessed I am. One thing I want to share with other cancer survivors and those who are going through their cancer journey is not to give up on your faith and hope. What helped me was staying positive and focusing on God. I put my trust in Jesus and he helped me overcome my fears over cancer. Stay strong and be brave. You are a fighter, a warrior, and a survivor, and you got this.

I got to submit my artwork to a program for thyroid cancer awareness month, to support all thyroid cancer survivors (including myself), and to support our community members who are facing thyroid cancer or any type of cancer. It was important to me to share my artwork piece to support thyroid cancer awareness month and to support all thyroid cancer survivors including myself by telling other survivors I am here to bring HOPE, COURAGE, and FAITH to all survivors. And to tell them to be BRAVE.

I have met a lot of people through online communities like Thytabono. I met a lot of people my age who went through the same journey that I did. This allows me to advocate about my Thyroid cancer story and my testimony to help others understand what it means to feel less alone in their thyroid cancer journey and how we can find moral support during our thyroid cancer journey. I want to tell other survivors that they aren’t alone.

When I went to my first Thytabono support group two and a half years ago, they were so welcoming, loving, kind, caring, and understanding of what I went through with my thyroid cancer journey. It makes me feel less alone, and they have been really helpful in encouraging me to self-advocate about Thyroid cancer and how to share my thyroid cancer story with others. I use my artwork to support all thyroid cancer survivors including myself and love seeing all the beautiful artwork pieces that others submitted. It helps people to understand what every thyroid cancer survivor went through.
